The New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) is a digital form introduced by the New Zealand government to make border entry faster, safer, and more efficient. All travelers—regardless of nationality or visa status—must complete the declaration before entering New Zealand.
This process is part of New Zealand’s initiative to modernize border procedures and strengthen health and safety screening. Whether you’re visiting for tourism, seeing family, or transiting through Auckland International Airport, the NZTD ensures that essential travel, health, and customs information is submitted in advance for a smoother entry experience.
From experiencing the vibrant culture of Auckland to exploring the natural beauty of Queenstown and beyond, completing the NZTD is a key step in preparing for your journey to New Zealand.
The New Zealand dollar (NZD), introduced in 1967, is the official currency of New Zealand. Its symbol is $, but to distinguish it from other dollar currencies, it is often written as NZ$. It’s sometimes informally called the “Kiwi dollar,” referencing the country’s national bird.
New Zealand has three official languages: English, Māori (Te Reo Māori), and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). English is the most widely spoken, while Māori holds cultural and legal significance and is spoken by around 4% of the population.

Example of an NZTD Confirmation Email (for reference only)
Once submitted, your NZTD is reviewed and stored in New Zealand’s official immigration system. Travelers typically receive an email confirmation that their declaration has been successfully received by the authorities.
When accepted, the NZTD is electronically linked to your passport and travel details by New Zealand border authorities. There’s no need to print or present a separate document on arrival, as officials can access it electronically. A new NZTD is required for each entry into New Zealand and should ideally be submitted 24–72 hours before departure.
If there are problems with your submission — such as missing or incorrect information — the New Zealand authorities may contact you to correct it. It’s important to ensure all details are accurate, including personal information, travel history, and any items you need to declare. Inaccuracies may result in delays at the border or penalties under New Zealand’s biosecurity and customs laws.
Our role is to assist travelers in completing the New Zealand Traveller Declaration accurately and on time. The final processing, acceptance, and verification of the NZTD are carried out solely by New Zealand border authorities.
